In a lot of Cindy Sherman's work she takes on the role of someone else, and basically, plays a character in a still picture. In one of her Black & White Untilled Film Still, she seems to portray a woman that is in an abusive relationship. In the picture, you can see the fear in her eyes. Personally, in most of Sherman's work, I find it hard to create a story from it because they are so unusual. With this one, I immediately saw a female that is scared.
I decided to go with this Cindy Sherman picture because what better way to get creative with makeup. seems pretty simple for a newcomer to photography. I put my own spin on it and decided to show the mask that females tend to put on when they are in an abusive relationship, which is putting on a smile and wearing makeup to cover up their bruises. For someone like me who is thinking about going into photography, I got to see and be a part of the creative side of taking a picture.
In the photo on the left, you see a woman in fear and that is physically and emotionally abused. On the right, she is wearing her mask because she is afraid of what the world might think of her. Cindy Sherman pretended to be someone she is not in a lot like when she would dress as a male to walk in the streets only so she won't be cat called. I took inspiration from that piece and made it into reality in my own piece.
