Untitled A 1975

When I first heard of Cindy Sherman was during our first class. While watching the video “Nobody is Here but Me” on Cindy Sherman was not very interesting towards me or boring. At first I, didn’t understand what was Cindy Sherman was trying to show us. I thought she was socially awkward by being in her own apartment all day. However, while finish watching the video and reading more about Cindy Sherman. I had understood what she trying shows us throughout her self-portraits.
Cindy Sherman had change the game of self-portraits. Many people will think a self-portrait is a painting of yourself. However, Cindy Sherman had change the way of painting a picture to photography. She didn’t take a simple photograph or selfie of herself. She used wigs, make ups and other creative ways to take a photograph then just taking simple one. Cindy had created many portraits that were very different from one another. When Cindy took a photograph of her self she made a story behind the self-portrait. Cindy did not make a simple self-portrait with person just smiling or having a serious straight face. She had made self portrait of herself or women being sexual abuse, beating, and the male gaze.
I enjoyed Cindy Sherman individual self-portraits to express herself as artist and becoming on the top female photographer in her time. The self-portrait I pick of Cindy Sherman was simple one with her smiling. I pick the one with her smiling because it seems like she enjoyed taking that picture. All her other self-portraits she only has a serious face then a goofy smile. But this one was my favorite out her other one because smile is one in million that expression of joy and happiness. So, Cindy Sherman was a creative photographer who made self-portraits of herself but in many different individual ways.
