Finding Myself ("The Puzzle")

What is the subject of your image?
. The subject is a visual representation of someone trying to find themselves. gathering bits and pieces of who they think they are and trying to put them together.
What is the content of your image?
. I created a moving picture of myself with my hands covering my face with puzzle pieces drawn on them symbolizing the pieces of my life that I am trying to put together. Along with a question mark on my nose which is saying that I do not quite know when the "puzzle" is going to be complete.
Why did you make the choices that led to the composition?
. The whole idea of the spectacle is portraying something that isn't really there. For me I started to think about where I am in life at the moment and it all made sense once I taught about it. I am physically here but it is not where I want to be hence "The Puzzle" I decided to get creative with an obstacle that I am currently going through, which is finding myself.
Explain the process and steps you went through and why you made those decisions?
. At first, I was going to use pictures but then I figured my work would say more if it moved, which is why I used a gif. My life at this point is all over the place so I am literally trying to put the pieces together which is why decided to draw puzzle pieces on my hand. The question mark on my nose represents me not knowing exactly when things are going to fall into place. One artist that inspires is Freda Kahlo. Seeing that my piece is a reflection of something that I am actually going through, Freda's work is always something that reflects on her life. Another artist I think I can relate to is Mickalene Thomas, her work portrays being comfortable with yourself. My piece can relate because it is me trying to find myself, putting the pieces that are already there together for me to do that I need to be comfortable with those "pieces" in order for them to actually make the whole puzzle. A Guy Debord quote that can relate to this piece is "In a world that has really been turned upside down, the true is a moment of the false" what I took from that is whatever you see may seem true but it is actually not. With my piece, the story behind it is showing people the me I want them to see and making them believe that it's the actual me. It all comes back to me finding myself, no one will know the true me not even me until the puzzle piece is put together.
