The theme of the gallery was sort of mixed but I believe it was more geared to self, identity and race, with a few abstract pieces.
The artists showed self and identity very great. Above is the closest image we can get to a self portait. The artists showed self and identity very great. Above he closest image we can get to a self portrait. The needles stuck to her show us the pain she feels. This shows us how important self and identity is to everyone. People may have judged this girl and she may had ended up hurting herself. A lot of emotion and pain is in this picture. I get this message that the artist is trying to say "Watch out or you may end up trapped in the needles." I believe this piece is almost disturbing, for me it yells "Stay away self-harm!"
This image right here is a mini-photo book. The title is "Is this my America?". This is self and identity as the words relate to rhetorical questions immigrants may ask themselves after living in America for a while. I believe this piece correlates to the other pieces as they all seem to take a different perspective at self and identity. I believe the artist leaves us the message, "America should be all of our land, not just yours." I believe the artist also tells us that we should step up, and do something about anyone taking away your right. I definitely want to see this artists' other work; I am left very intrigued. This picture shows us how Muslim's feel about self and identity in the U.S. I believe this has some emotion, and the black and white adds to it. This is another picture book. It also has some writing in Arabic. It definitely brings out a different vibe.
This art is amazing. Since it was my first time in an art gallery, I didn't know think I was allowed to touch anything. Some of the art was touchable but I still was scared to touch it. This silkscreen though is very nice. Very beautiful flowers. It was touchable and actually it wasn't no ordinary silkscreen, their was sound in it! There was a sound chip. The name of the art piece is Sound Advice. If I would I had opened it, I would have been given some advice! All we need for self and identity, some advice! Especially through art. This was the most regular painting there. It definitely did not look like something regular though! I believe this piece is very abstract. So abstract that it makes me want to think.
This was what I believe the coolest piece there. Very unique, you have something that looks like it can hold a fire and a freaking pyramid you can talk into! The pyramid connects to a cool looking knife on a booklet. This can definitely relate to self and identity as instead of someone cutting themselves or in other words maybe, "talking to a knife", the person can connect their knife to a pyramid and make up a cool looking game! Just kidding, but this definitely relates to self and identity and I believe it is an awesome piece.

Half of the size of the gallery! For real though, I was literally standing in the middle of the gallery, it was very small!
I believe this piece right here is amazing as well. The drawings are beautifully drawn and they can relate to self and identity. The owls alone staring into the mist. The girl in the middle picture looking like she is getting away from the problems of her life by playing to fellow animals. The picture above with the kids looking like angels. And don't forget the boat on the edge about to sink, resembling downfalls and the Titanic. Very good art.
This is the last picture I took of. It was this what I think is weird fold-able painting. But it was the only thing on display looking like it came from the jungle or a tribe. I believe it is awesome and very cool. Making objects that resemble things from the past, that is superbly awesome! This makes me feel like I am in the jungle, and that's how I can connect it to self and identity. Imagine how people in the jungle must have felt when other people discovered them. Self and identity is very important.
