Theme of Celebrities

“Identity then is a concept with which to think about self-invention and the pleasures of the fabricated life; it is a vehicle for seeing oneself as a performer both on and off the stage and as such it can provide an exciting manner of thinking of oneself as an actor or agent in the world” (Finklestein pg.137)

The pop artist, Andy Warhol, had a huge obsession with famous celebrities and he loved to paint portraits of the rich and famous. He was someone who became very fascinated by the glamorous lifestyle and the power of celebrities in America; he understood the power that the images of celebrities ultimately had. Throughout his art, Andy Warhol became a celebrity himself which had then allowed him the opportunity to work with many celebrities like Judy Garland, Debbie Harry and Mick Jagger.

From Andy Warhol’s obsession with celebrities I was then inspired to turn my selfie to look something similar as the silkscreen painting, Marilyn Diptych.
