"Even though we cannot know how the other sees us, nonetheless, we are consumed with trying to control it."
Andy Warhol's series of self portraits focused more on the idea of a celebrity persona. A mask that we put when we go outside in society. He had numerous self portraits that ranged from silk screens to photographs of himself in drag.Warhol manipulated his self image in different forms, each one sending a different message from the other. These were his masks that he was putting on to have an impact on the viewer. How the viewer perceives these masks is entirely up to them. I saw Warhol's various 'masks' like the filters that we use on our social media. Some are funny, others are meant to make the person either look cute or beautiful. Each filter sends a different message about the subject in the camera, however the view of these selfies may see these differently. A cute filter to me, may be off to the viewer. We cannot control how others view us, no matter how hard we try to gain control of our image. This is something that Warhol was well aware of in his work and played with.
